Why did it have to be a giant snake?! - Indiana Jones and The Great Circle - Part 8

What was supposed to be a simple puzzle turned into more than I thought, and then I encounter a large snake. NOPE NOPE NOPE!

My name is Steve Saylor, and this is my quest log for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD. If you want to play the game and come back to listen or read this later, please do. Don’t worry, I’ll be here when you’re ready.

Today, I'm sharing my thoughts on a longer play session in Sukhothai. Initially, I wasn't too invested. The main mission—stealing gold from Vos to unlock a breathing device—didn't appeal to me at first. Instead, I explored the world and stumbled upon an unexpected temple. What I thought would be a straightforward puzzle turned into something quite unique.

A prayer wheel is not just a simple prayer wheel

Inside the temple, I encountered a prayer wheel. To progress, I had to align symbols in the correct order. At first, the setup felt typical, but the experience took a turn when I touched the wheel. A chemical or poison knocked me out, transporting me to a dream-like sequence at Marshall College. This sequence was surreal, blending reality with a nightmare, gradually becoming more bizarre.

It offered glimpses into the past, with doors labeled "Opens in the Past" or "Opens in the Future." Behind each door, there were memories: Antonio dancing in his office, Gina discovering something about her sister, and Vos rambling about the circle’s repetitive nature. These moments added depth to the story, though I wished for more revelations about Indiana Jones himself.

In one key sequence, I entered a classroom filled with artifacts like the Golden Idol and the bronze medallion from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Placing these in the correct order unlocked a word needed for the prayer wheel puzzle. This nod to Indy’s past was a nice touch, even if it left me wanting more introspection from the character.

Why did it have to be snakes?

After solving the puzzle, I resumed my mission, sneaking into Voss’s camp to retrieve the gold. The stealth mechanics were engaging, though a "Lucky Hat" ability—resetting enemies after revival—broke immersion slightly. Nevertheless, exploring hidden paths and secret areas kept things exciting.

The highlight, and the most nerve-wracking part, was discovering a secret pyramid. The environment was incredible, but it housed a giant snake. While I’m not as snake-averse as Indy, facing this massive creature was harrowing. Navigating underwater tunnels and evading the snake’s attacks added tension, especially during a platforming section where failure meant starting over.

Eventually, I confronted the snake in a chamber adorned with an elephant skeleton. Armed with tridents, I managed to fend it off after several intense attempts. Later, I solved another puzzle with Gina, involving turning statues to reveal a map to the next location. The narrative continued with a tense encounter with Locus, which could have offered a meaningful resolution but instead ended with Indy knocking him out.

The session concluded with a return to camp, where explosions hinted at the next chapter. I’m eager to explore more of Sukhothai before reaching the story's point of no return. While I enjoy side quests that enrich the lore, I'm mindful of balancing exploration with progression.

Overall, I’m still loving the game. Its challenges keep me engaged, and the exploration remains one of its best features. There’s so much to discover, and I’m excited to see where the journey leads next.

Thanks for joining me on this adventure. Until the next entry!
