Getting to know the party - Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Part 8

I start to get to know my party by helping them on their own missions. Today I hang out with Neve and Harding. Let's see how that goes!

My name is Steve Saylor, and this is my quest log for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD. If you want to play the game and come back to listen or read this later, please do. Don’t worry, I’ll be here when you’re ready.

Today’s entry is taken from my play session on Twitch, which I started doing now as a fun way to keep playing the game. So if you prefer to watch me play the game instead of recap it in this format, follow me on Twitch to be notified when I stream the game next.

In this journal entry it’s all about getting to know my party a bit better. I go on solo missions with Neve and Harding.

Harding: Rook & Stone

I got to know Harding during her solo mission, during which she learned how to use her new abilities to manipulate rock and stone. Harding wasn’t someone I was initially interested in. She seemed to be closed off at first in that she didn’t care about the consequences of her getting hurt. We all kept wanting her to rest and get better, but she didn’t want to be put on the sidelines. Her becoming open with my sarcastic/funny but wanting to help Rook has been nice. We (I mean me, the player, not Rook) and Harding wear our hearts on our sleeves, so I greatly relate to that.

What makes Harding interesting is her straightforward nature. She's direct about her interest, which creates a refreshing dynamic in our interactions. The romantic dialogue options with her feel natural and well-paced, unlike my experience with Nev, where things lean more toward friendship.

There's a warmth to Harding's character that makes every interaction meaningful. She balances professionalism with personal interest, creating moments that feel both authentic and engaging. Whether we're discussing missions or sharing lighter moments, there's always an underlying chemistry that makes our conversations particularly enjoyable.

Neve: A Blue-Collar Detective with a Heart

I also got to know Neve. She was the one I gravitated to first when I first started playing as she seemed so dang cool lol. I liked her personality right from the beginning. A take no nonsense detective. But getting to know her in Dock town I got to see a side of her opening up to me that I liked even more.

She has this fascinating approach to her work - using local gossip papers to find leads, much like how Men in Black used tabloids to track aliens. There's always "a nugget of truth" in there, as she says.

What stands out about Neve is her deep love for Dock town. Despite it not being as glamorous as other cities, she's deeply connected to its blue-collar roots and knows everyone from dock workers to Shadow Dragons. Our interactions showed her vulnerability too - she opened up about her fears regarding the job with Varric to take down Solas.

While there are some flirty dialogue options with Neve, the relationship seems to be developing more as a strong friendship rather than romance. The dynamic is different from what I'm experiencing with Harding, but it's equally engaging in its own way.

Story Developments

The session also included some significant plot developments:

  • Met with the First Warden, who's notably resistant to our Blight investigation

  • Learned more about Dorian and Mae’s political history

  • Discovered a disturbing revelation about the elven gods' plans to create their own dagger to tear open the veil

The stakes are getting higher with the revelation about the elven gods' plans. This new threat of them potentially bringing the Blight through a torn veil adds another layer of urgency to our mission.

Until next time, fellow adventurers!

Quest Log
Do you have those moments when you’re playing a game and you wished you had been documenting your experience? Either writing down your thoughts, or recording them so you can look back and see how far you’ve come? Did your predictions turn out to be right? Did you change how you felt from the beginning of the game to the end? Did you savour your journey while you played? Or speedrun the whole experience just to get it over with? I know I have. So I’m doing just that. My name is Steve Saylor and this is my Quest Log.
