The Butcher - Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Part 06

Don't do drugs kids lol

My name is Steve Saylor, and this is my quest log for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD. If you want to play the game and come back to listen or read this later, please do. Don’t worry, I’ll be here when you’re ready.

In my latest gaming session of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, I found myself continuing my journey in Treviso. Playing from my sister's place over the holidays via PlayStation Portal, I was eager to dive deeper into the Crows storyline that had captured my interest.

My mission involved tracking down a Crow who held a contract related to someone known as The Butcher - a figure who had been steadily taking control of Treviso. The Crows wanted to stop him as his influence was becoming detrimental to the town. During my investigation, I discovered that the Crow with the contract had been killed, and their relative was imprisoned.

Exploring Treviso has been fascinating. The city's perpetual nighttime setting creates a unique atmosphere, and I've spent most of my time traversing the rooftops, using zip lines and climbing ladders. The Drowned Docks area particularly stood out as an interesting location.

The investigation led me to uncover evidence about the Butcher's use of government influence and a mysterious drug called Qmek. I had to infiltrate the Butcher's compound to confront the Qmekmaster, which proved to be an unexpected and challenging encounter.

What I particularly enjoy about this storyline is the complex nature of the Crows. While they're essentially a mob family, they position themselves as protectors of the townspeople, operating behind the scenes. It reminds me of elements from various sources - Batman's Court of Owls, Assassin's Creed, and classic mafia stories like The Godfather.

As this chapter concludes, I'm faced with choosing between returning to the crossroads for side quests to learn more about Solas, or heading to the docks to unlock Neve's second quest line. The rich lore of Dragon Age continues to impress me, and I'm beginning to understand why the series has such a devoted following.

While some might argue that playing the previous Dragon Age games is essential for full context, I find The Veilguard to be the most approachable entry in the series. Though knowing the previous lore would be beneficial, the game does an excellent job of being accessible to newcomers while maintaining its depth and complexity.

The journey continues, and I'm excited to uncover more of what this rich world has to offer.

Do you have those moments when you’re playing a game and you wished you had been documenting your experience? Either writing down your thoughts, or recording them so you can look back and see how far you’ve come? Did your predictions turn out to be right? Did you change how you felt from the beginning of the game to the end? Did you savour your journey while you played? Or speedrun the whole experience just to get it over with? I know I have. So I’m doing just that. My name is Steve Saylor and this is my Quest Log.
