The Sea of Blood - Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Part 5

One of my favourite missions I did in the game so far!

My name is Steve Saylor, and this is my quest log for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD. If you want to play the game and come back to listen or read this later, please do. Don’t worry, I’ll be here when you’re ready.

In what has become my favorite mission so far in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, I embarked on an intriguing quest called "The Sea of Blood." This mission perfectly blends elements of prison breaks, family drama, and dark magic into one compelling package.

The mission began with our team helping the demon of Vyrantium escape his chains to fulfill a contract for Calivan, the Warden of the Ossery. However, this victory was bittersweet, as a counterattack from Zara Renata resulted in the death of Katarina before his return.

Our journey took us to Treviso, where we encountered the Antivan Crows - an organization reminiscent of Batman's League of Assassins. At the Inn of Crows, we met Katarina, the First Talon, who revealed that the demon of Virantium was actually her grandson, Lucanis.

The mission led us to the Ossery - an fascinating underwater prison where blood magic experiments were being conducted. What made this location particularly memorable was its unique setting; imagine fighting through corridors while massive shark-like creatures swim past the windows. The prison, created by Zara but run by Warden Calivan, held our target: Lucanis, who was possessed by a demon granting him special abilities.

The Crows operate by an unwavering principle: they always fulfill their contracts, no matter how long it takes. Our objective was clear - destroy the vial of Lucanis’ blood that was being used to control him, and eliminate Calivan.

The combat was challenging, especially in narrow corridors where dodging became difficult. However, the highlight was the final battle against Calivan, who summoned a massive demon using blood magic. The combination attacks between Nev and Lucanis, along with my static attacks, made for an epic confrontation.

What adds an interesting layer to the story is the mysterious spirit called Spite, which only we as players can see - our character remains unaware of its presence. This subtle detail has me curious about future story implications.

The mission's conclusion brought us back to the Crows, only to discover that Zara had taken advantage of our absence to infiltrate their ranks and kill Katarina. This twist has set up an intriguing revenge plot that I'm eager to explore.

What makes this mission particularly engaging is how it combines various compelling elements - it feels like a blend of Batman lore, Spanish mafia dynamics, and classic fantasy elements. The Antivan Crows themselves are fascinating, coming across as a Spanish-influenced assassin family, reminiscent of stories like Zorro while maintaining their unique identity in the Dragon Age universe.

Now I face a choice: continue with the main story or return to Treviso for more Antivan Crows missions. The prospect of confronting Zara and her allies in the shadowy underbelly of Treviso is tempting, and I'm looking forward to discovering how this storyline develops.
